About Me

Hi, My name is Alicia. I am a exercise physiologist in Westchester, NY.

I grew up wanting to become a doctor. That was the only dream, the only professon for me. There was no plan B. Over the years, it felt like I was chasing a dream that did not want to be caught. So many things kept getting in my way and pulling me in another direction. One of the challenges was balancing my deep love for medicine with the overwhelming belief that prescription drugs, injections, and surgeries should not be the first treatment option. I was more interested in a natural, holistic way of healing.

So, I went to Gettysburg College, majored in health & exercise science, and everything changed! I took classes like anatomy and physiology, kinesiology, neuromuscular physiology, clinical exercise physiology, and anything else with an "ology" at the end. I decided that exercise is medicine, and I have been using it this way ever since.

I believe in prevention. There are so many people being diagnosed with chronic conditions that could have been avoided. I believe in cure. There are some conditions that may be healed or reversed. I also believe in rehabilitation. There are ways to manage a diagnosis to achieve a better quality of life. Finally, I believe that the human body is wonderfully created to live. If we learn what our bodies need and give them what they ask for, we would be amazed at what they give us in return.

How I Can Help You

Your health and safety are important to me, and our work together will reflect that.

I've always loved medicine, and I really enjoy working with a clinical population. It's often difficult for those with injuries or medical problems to know exactly what exercises are appropriate for them, and many doctors are not able to offer such specific advice. As a result, these people remain inactive and afraid to worsen their condition. My education and 10 years of experience allow me to write exercise prescriptions that will help you to achieve your optimal fitness.

Services

Fitness Evaluation

The unique features that make us who we are and allow us to move the way we do should be considered when creating a fitness program. I provide a thorough evaluation that includes documentation of your medical history; assessment of your muscular strengths, weaknesses, and/or imbalances; identification of the goals you want to achieve; and a strategy for how you can accomplish those goals.

Neuromotor Training

This functional training targets balance, coordination, agility, and proprioception to enhance gross and fine motor skills. They are incorporated into each workout to optimize movement patterns.

Aerobic Training

Physical activity that causes an increase in heart rate for a sustained period of time can help to improve the body's ability to utilize oxygen and strengthen the cardiorespiratory system. Whether it's running, going round after round in Tabatas, completing a circuit, or boxing, I incorporate aerobic exercises—as tolerated—to help prevent or reverse the effects of cardiovascular disease.

Chronic Disease Management

Being injured or diagnosed with an illness is not a reason to remain inactive. I have used exercise to help in the prevention, management, and treatment of many chronic conditions including arthritis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, joint replacements, heart disease, scoliosis, sciatica, aortic stenosis, Parkinson's Disease, multiple sclerosis, and more.

Resistance Training

Having a well-toned body is one thing; having a body that works well and is not often injured is another. Many people are walking around with aches and pains from muscle imbalances they don't know they have and perpetuate every day. By strengthening weak muscle groups, easing pressure on the overactive ones, and restoring balance between the two, my goal is to help you move better...so medications, injections, and surgery are your last resorts and not your first option.

"Alicia is a patient and wonderful instructor. She is an expert in her field and extremely knowledgeable. Alicia clearly communicates what I need to do, as well as models every movement and combination in boxing. She is always supportive and able to modify my workouts when needed. Our sessions together are challenging and rewarding.I always feel proud and have a sense of accomplishment when we are done."Meyer and Lynne, R.
"What I find so amazing, and refreshing really, is that Alicis actually thinks about me when she goes home. Sometimes as patients we feel like we're being brushed off and nobody is listening to us, but she is actively trying to help me. I can feel that she cares, and it's just the greatest thing."J.E. Nelson
"Alicia is the best. She really is. I'm so grateful to have her. Hopefully she doesn't get too big and leave me because I need her."Bruce B.

"The best part about having Alicia work with me is that it is clear how much effort and thought she puts into our sessions. They are never boring and routine. She focuses on the goal I set and steadily progresses me towards it."Cathy C.
"Alicia is the best! She is kind and gentle, but she always challenges me with new and interesting exercises. I am stronger since I have been working with her, and I look forward to seeing her each week. And I always feel great after a session with her!"Anne S.
"I've had a few doctors tell me that there is nothing more they can do for my back and that I will end up in a wheelchair eventually. Alicia saw that as a challenge. She plans every workout based on what I need, never makes it up as she goes, and will research new ways to help me. She's the reason I am pain free and walking without even a cane now."Michael K.
